Electrical

Electrical engineering generally deals with electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. This field was unknown until the electric telegraph and electrical power supply came up in the late nineteenth century. Now electrical engineering has expanded its scope in the field of electricity which includes power, electronics, signal processing, control systems and telecommunications. There are many famous scientists: Michael Faraday the founder of electric motor technology, Thomas Edison, who built the first large scale electrical network and Nikola Tesla who designed a long distance electrical transmission network. We are using electricity in many areas. For example, we need electricity for lighting houses, cooking food, heating water and other things. In this report I am going to write about what are the most important changes or developments in the electrical field.

There are many changes or developments in electrical engineering, but I am going to write one change that happened in electrical engineering and two developments that happened in electrical engineering.
Sources of energy
First of all, if we go back five years ago, we will see that the sources of energy were limited. They depended upon oil to get energy. This energy someday will disappear (non-renewable energy) so that electrical engineers do many researches to find an alternative energy (renewable energy). From these researches they find that from the light of the sun, they can get energy which is called solar energy. Also they find that from the power of wind, they can get energy. They built a wind turbine and a rotation of a blade makes the wind turbine produce electricity. Another way we can get energy is from a river by building a dam or a flume. This river falls a high distance and hits the turbine which produces electricity. Finally, scientists find that we can produce electricity from garbage or renewable resources such as vegetation and sugar cane.

Old Devices and New Devices
Electrical engineers use many different devices in their job. For example, motors which are used to change electrical energy to mechanical energy, generators which convert mechanical energy to electrical energy and voltmeters which measure electrical potential in an electric circuit. Many years ago motors and generators were so big, needed a lot of maintenance, were expensive, difficult to handle, needed more time to find a problem and manual control, but nowadays with a new technology motors and generators become small size, easy to maintain; we can control them from far away using PLC (programmable logic controller); they are not expensive, easy to find a problem and easy to handle. For the old voltmeter, it was difficult to use, the range was between 0V – 230V; it was not accurate, not safe and quickly damaged if there was high voltage because there was no fuse inside it, but now a voltmeter has become more accurate because it has a digital number better than an analog voltmeter; it can detect a small amount of volt and high voltage; it is safer because it contains a fuse inside it.

Electric Car
A lot of people drive a car that moves with gasoline. This kind of car is making a lot of pollution, but with new technology there are some cars can be charged like when you charge your laptop. These cars cause less pollution than gasoline cars and are friendly to the environment. A Subaru R1e is an example of an electric car. This car can be charged in your home and go up to 50 miles and the top speed for this car is 62 miles per hour.

Conclusion:-
In conclusion, electrical engineering is one of the most important subjects in the world. Our life has become more comfortable because of it, for example, we can heat water, light our home and cool our room. Electrical engineering has made many useful things to make our life better.

task 6

Portfolio task 6

Nowadays, many people travel from one place to another. So, they need to change their currency to what the other country uses. People think that if we have a global currency it will be easier to trade money or travel. But I think it’s very difficult to make one currency for the world. So, now I am going to discuss both cases.

Firstly, there are some advantages of having the same currency. The first advantage is that if we have the same currency we can travel to another country without thinking if the other country is expensive. Another good point is that the business between different countries will be easier. For example, if the company wants to trade money it will be easy and fast. The final advantage is that you can buy items from other countries easily. For instance, if we buy from another country we don’t have to worry about the exchange rate and pricing.

Although there are some advantages there are also some disadvantages. The first disadvantage is the different economic states. For example, some countries have very strong economies so they will lose. Another point is that most countries will not accept the idea because they have a good economy. The last point is that I think the economy will be weak in all countries.

In conclusion, I think having a global currency is not a good idea because some countries have a high economy, and some don’t.

Two figures are shown. The first, line graph, shows the number of visits to Australia by overseas residents from 1975 to 2005.  The second table shows the number of visitors to Australia from other countries. This report will analyze the overall trend.

Firstly, the overall trend for the first line graph is that the number of visitors increased to over 30 million from 1975 to 2005. For example, in 1975 the number of visitors was nearly 9 million and become 16 million in 1985. From 1985 to 1995 a huge increase saw the number of visitors increase by 9 million to become 24 million. In 2005 the number of visitors increased and became 31 million visitors.

The second table shows the number of visitors from other countries in 1975 and 2005. The overall trend is Japan had the largest number of visitors. For example, the number of visitors in 1975 was 3.3million and it dramatically increased in 2005 and become 12 million. The second highest visitors were from South Korea which is 2.5 million in 1975 and 9.1 million in 2005, followed by Europe which in 1975 was 1.1, million then 4.5 million in 2005. The lowest number of visitors was from Britain, the USA and China.

In conclusion, we notice that the number of visitors in Australia was increasing, and most visitors came from Japan.
